Chestnut
Chestnut is an edible seed of trees constituting the Castanea type of the Fagaceae family. It is a delicious, healthy and nutritive fruit. Due to its starchy structure, it is used as flavorer and stabilizer in foods.
Having high amounts of starch and water unlike other fruits, chestnut has low protein and fat rates. Containing minerals such as starch, fiber, protein, potassium, phosphor, calcium, and vitamins B1, B2 and C, chestnut is a filling food. 100 g of chestnut provide 160 calories of energy, contain 34 g carbohydrate, 3.2 g protein, 1.8 g fat and 8-10 g fiber. As it has a high rate of fibers, it does not increase the blood sugar much or cause cardiovascular diseases like simple carbohydrates do. It is added to desserts, rice dish and foods.
